Upwork is a global freelancing website that allows people all over the world to find remote jobs. With Upwork, you can work from anywhere in the world and get paid for it! However, with a large pool of candidates to choose from, many clients are put off by the sheer number of freelance workers available. In this article, I’ll show you how to make your profile stand out and attract higher-quality clients.
Work on Your Profile
Your first impression counts! Make sure your Profile Headline accurately describes what you do. Add a cover photo that reflects your personality or style and links to your site if possible. Clients will search for freelancers based on their expertise, so don’t forget to add your skills.
Add Relevant Experience
Make sure you include the most relevant freelance projects and long-term positions you worked at in the past. You can also create a separate section for each project or job, which you can use to detail out what your role was, what tools/software you used, how much your clients paid, etc.
Include Your Hourly Rate
If you work on an hourly rate, just include it in the description! The description will help clients from getting confused about your rates and being surprised by a hefty final price tag at the end of the project.
Include Samples
Clients want to see examples of your work. Make sure you add a section in your Experience for each project and include screenshots of the final result or a link to online samples.
Include Testimonials
You don’t have to go out and hunt for testimonials from past clients if they don’t exist, but it will help to add them where they do. It shouldn’t be too difficult to get a testimonial from your past clients if you did a good job.
Get Verified
You can get verified by uploading an ID, bank statement and paying for the freelancer bond. Upwork will review all of these documents to make sure they are authentic. However, it is still possible to fudge some photos and screenshots of these things. Although faking or lying on your profile is against Upwork’s Terms of Service, it does happen, and you should be aware that the consequences of getting caught can mean losing your Upwork profile and money!
Have a Unique Angle
Think about what sets you apart from the other freelancers on Upwork. Maybe you are an expert in a particular field or use unique tools for your work. You can even create another section on your profile where you list out these things under Specialties.
