What is the Internet’s Fascination with Millennials?
Millennials have overtaken all other age demographics as the largest living generation
Millennials are a generation of people born between 1982 and 2004, spanning from ages 18 to 36. They make up 26% of the population in America and they have overtaken Baby Boomers as the largest living generation.
In 2016, Millennials became the largest group in the United States for the first time. In 2020, there were more millennials than any other age demographic in America. Millennials grew up with technology and now live their lives on social media — whether it is making videos or just posting pictures that portray how happy and carefree they appear to be.
However, this generation also suffers from high rates of unemployment and student loan debt — so what does this mean for society? Will we see a shift away from social media to focus on other aspects like the economy? Will the next generation, Generation Z, continue this trend?
The Internet’s Fascination
The internet is fascinated with millennials because they are a generation who have been raised with technology and they make up a quarter of our population. In 2016, they overtook baby boomers as the largest living generation in America. They are clearly making an impact now by being a new face in your office building or even through their social media presence.
Who are Millennials?
Millennials were born between 1982 and 2004, spanning from ages 18 to 36. The older members of this generation grew up with technology and the younger members were raised by it. We don’t know what kind of impact they will have on society yet because we haven’t seen enough examples but it is clear that they are making an impact on society already.
Ways Millennials Are Changing Society
Millennials have a strong presence on social media and they use it in many different ways to advance their causes, opinions, careers, etc. For example, the “Me Too” campaign was originally started by Alyssa Milano who is a millennial activist who is known to use her social media presence for good.
Millennials have also been changing the dating scene because they have been meeting people online more frequently than previous generations and it’s become a common way of meeting a significant other. They are also a major reason behind the popularity of fidget spinners, which became a trend among school children in 2017.
The internet’s fascination with millennials may be due to the fact that they are the newest generation and we aren’t sure what kind of impact they will have on society yet. They were raised with technology and it is clearly evident that they are making their presence known through social media, whether it is by starting a new cause or just being a new face in the office building.
The internet has been fascinated with millennials ever since their rise to prominence and it will be interesting to see how they impact society as time progresses.
